In all we have some 4 miles of the river known as The Moccas Fishery located at Bredwardine between Hay-on-Wye and Hereford.

Our season opens on the 16th June and runs until 14th March. We are open to anyone wishing to fish on a daily or weekly basis.

Over the last few years we have steadily built up a reputation as one of the premier Barbel Fisheries in the country. The usual weight range Is between 4 to 9 lbs. with many double figure fish and the largest recorded so far weighing in at 14lbs. The river is quite strong flowing and as a result the fish are extremely healthy and strong fighting, so we recommend a minimum of 8lb.line.

There is also an abundance of other species to be found, we have recorded bags of Chub in excess of 50lbs. and individual bream to over 6lbs. There are also many Dace, Bleak and Roach, as well as a healthy head of Pike. There are also numerous lakes and pools in the area where you can fish for Carp and Tench as well as for match fishing. All of which offer various fishing options through out the year.

You must hold a current EA licence, we can issue these if necessary. All baits permitted by the EA are allowed on the river and we have an arrangement to be able to use maggot from the start of the season. This arrangement only applies to The Moccas Fishery and you should check with the proprietors of any other waters you intend to use before using maggot prior to the 15th September.

Barbless or micro-barb hooks must be used at all times, no Barbel or Carp to be held in keepnets and no boilies or high protein bait to be used in the Carp Lake. Residents in the hotel have access to the whole of the 4 miles, but it is our policy to keep coarse and game fishers to separate sections. There are pegs available to day ticket fishermen, but it is advisable to phone prior to your visit to check availability.

Together with the hotel we run a members fishing club which affords various benefits.

In association with John Bailey the renowned writer, television personality and leading Wye Barbel enthusiast, we run a number of courses which John personally conducts. Watch for our adverts in the fishing press or write to us for further details.

The fishery is open to individuals, small groups and larger clubs and from the hotel you can arrange for breakfasts, lunches or after match meals and of course for the bar to open. Special rates available for group bookings staying in the hotel.

For further details on coarse or game fishing and accommodation in our 17th Century Coaching Inn please write, telephone or fax to the resident proprietor.
