The Red Lion Hotel, renowned as one of the leading hotels in the Heart of England catering for people who enjoy the outdoor type of holiday.
The hamlet of Bredwardine lies roughly halfway along the river Wye as it winds its way through some of the most beautiful and as yet unspoilt countryside in the whole of England. Whilst being surrounded by some of the busiest population centres of the Midlands and South Wales and with easy access via both road and rail, it remains a relatively forgotten and tranquil oasis in a busy world. Kilvert Country, Wye Valley Walk, The Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons, Offa's Dyke, The Malvern Hills and Welsh Borders are some of the sites on offer to name but a few.

Walking
Here at the Red Lion we are ideally located to offer you the opportunity to discover some of the finest, and most varied walking country, from the gentle rolling hills of the Welsh borders, the heather covered moorlands of the Black Mountains and Malvern Hills to the more strenuous high tops of the Brecon Beacons. Plus a land steeped in history and local folklore. Enjoy some of the more local walks onto the surrounding hills from where you can look down on the meandering river Wye in the valley below or look out over the spectacular views taking in some five counties.
The hotel offers the atmosphere of a 17th century Inn but with all the facilities expected of a modern day hotel and as well as warm comfortable en-suite accommodation and good quality food after a day's walking. We can also provide storage and drying facilities for your equipment. Information, maps and literature are available locally and if you're stopping over with us as part of a longer walk we can arrange for the transportation of some of your heavier packs on to your next destination, contact us to enquire.

Golfing
The hotel is ideally located for your golfing holiday with the attraction of being able to play on a different course each day of your stay with us. Although we do not have the facilities of our own course we are well positioned for you to take advantage of the numerous courses available in The Wye Valley and the surrounding area.
There are three courses within a few minutes drive, these being; The Herefordshire Golf Club at Wormsley, a very pleasant, undulating course: then there is The Kington Golf Club, being the highest course in England and Wales, with magnificent views across Herefordshire and across to Wales; thirdly there is Burghill Golf Club, surrounded by Herefordshire many apple orchards. Also there are some 10 other courses all within comfortable reach of the hotel, some will be old favourites and some new ones to test your skills.
I hope you will agree that what we lack in not having our own course is more than made up for in the variety and choice we are able to offer you. You can choose to make your own arrangements with the clubs which will give you the freedom to play where you like, or you can take advantage of our special inclusive rates and let us look after things. Whatever you choose we will be pleased to assist with any arrangements you may care to make when planning your stay with us.

Cycling
Herefordshire offers some lovely cycle routes which take in the magnificent cathedral city of Hereford, many of the quaint surrounding villages, and the stunning Wye Valley. We welcome all sizes of cycling groups, whether just popping in for refreshments, food, or staying the night. We do advise that larger groups ring in advance to pre-order meals.
Canoeing
The Wye is a beautiful river for canoeing, with splendid scenery and wildlife including herons, kingfishers, peregrines and otters. Canoes can be hired from various companies in and around Glasbury and Hay-on-Wye for a few hours, a day or for longer. You can wind your way down stream to Bredwardine from either location, where the company will pick up you and your canoe.
We will also be pleased to discuss special rates for larger parties of friends, societies or club bookings.
We specialise at the hotel in holidays for the sports minded person who is not only looking for good sport, but who also requires some comfortable accommodation, good food and the kind of warm, friendly atmosphere you would expect to find amongst a group of such like-minded people.
Whilst for any non-playing members of your party we are within easy reach of such places as Mid-Wales, The Cotswolds, Hereford, Ross-On-Wye, Ledbury, Ludlow and The Malverns, with their many and varied attractions.
