The Red Lion Hotel in Bredwardine, Herefordshire is a welcoming 17th‑century country inn set near the River Wye, the Wye Valley Walk, the cathedral city of Hereford, and the book‑loving border town of Hay‑on‑Wye. A perfect base for exploring Herefordshire’s countryside and culture, then relaxing in comfort at the end of the day.

Food & Drink​

At our bar, you'll find a variety of options, including locally brewed lager, ale, cider, and stout, along with soft drinks, spirits, and wines. We also serve refreshing tap water upon request. 

Our food menu features fresh, local ingredients with a mix of pub classics, chef's specials, light bites, and hearty vegetarian and vegan dishes. While we don’t have a children’s menu, we're happy to offer half-portions at reduced prices.

Fishing

We provide access to approximately eight miles of prime River Wye fishing at The Moccas Fishery, located at Bredwardine between Hay‑on‑Wye and Hereford. This renowned stretch of the Wye is perfect for anglers seeking peaceful, scenic sport amidst the heart of Herefordshire.
​Coarse Fishing
Our fishing season runs from 16 June to 14 March, welcoming anglers of all levels. Day and weekly permits are available for anyone looking to enjoy this renowned stretch of the River Wye.
​Salmon Fishing
The season runs from 4 March to 17 October, and we usually catch our first fish within the opening weeks - a promising start to each year on the water.

Activities

If you’re keen to explore during your stay, the local area is packed with things to see and do. Discover Hereford Cathedral and its world‑famous Mappa Mundi, enjoy a family day at the Small Breeds & Owl Centre in Kington, or test your skills at Battlelands.

No trip to Herefordshire is complete without the Museum of Cider, and for those who prefer something more active, canoeing the stunning River Wye from Hay‑on‑Wye  - the celebrated town of books and the Hay Festival is a must.
