The Red Lion Hotel in Bredwardine, Herefordshire is a welcoming 17th‑century country inn set near the River Wye, the Wye Valley Walk, the cathedral city of Hereford, and the book‑loving border town of Hay‑on‑Wye. A perfect base for exploring Herefordshire’s countryside and culture, then relaxing in comfort at the end of the day.

Food & Drink​

There’s no shortage of choice at the bar, with locally brewed lager, ale, cider and stout alongside a full range of soft drinks, spirits and wines. And if all you need is a simple glass of tap water, that’s no trouble at all.
Our food menu is built around fresh, local produce and cooked to order, offering something for every appetite. Expect comforting pub favourites, chef’s specials, light bites and hearty plates, plus vegetarian and vegan dishes. We don’t offer a fixed children’s menu, but we’re always happy to serve half‑portions at a reduced price where possible.

Fishing

We offer access to around eight miles of prime River Wye fishing on The Moccas Fishery, set at Bredwardine between Hay‑on‑Wye and Hereford. A renowned stretch of the Wye, ideal for anglers looking for peaceful, scenic sport in the heart of Herefordshire.

Coarse fishing

Our fishing season runs from 16 June to 14 March, welcoming anglers of all levels. Day and week permits are available for anyone looking to enjoy this renowned stretch of the River Wye.

​Salmon fishing

The season runs from 4 March to 17 October, and we usually land our first fish within the opening weeks - a promising start to every year on the water.

Activities

If you’re keen to explore during your stay, the local area is packed with things to see and do. Discover Hereford Cathedral and its world‑famous Mappa Mundi, enjoy a family day at the Small Breeds & Owl Centre in Kington, or test your skills at Battlelands.
No trip to Herefordshire is complete without the Museum of Cider, and for those who prefer something more active, canoeing the stunning River Wye from Hay‑on‑Wye  - the celebrated town of books and the Hay Festival is a must.
